Soda has a strong affinity with both the arts and heritage. Resulting from this inherent attraction, Soda has designed (and designs) expositions for Singer Laren, The Dutch Open Air Museum, Museum Ostwall (Dortmund), Museum Oud Amelisweerd, and The Central Museum in Utrecht. For each display we work closely with the director, curator and keeper.
Soda's exposition designs finely balance content and context with colour and light, scale and architectural detail, rhythm and visual parallels, material and supports, scenography and experience. Sometimes an exposition calls for a subdued approach, another time it needs a larger gesture. But, in every case, the design reinforces the point the exhibition is trying to make, whilst obviously paying attention to essentials like logistics, safety and routing.
Singer Laren > exhibitionFrom 12 September 2023 till 8 Januari 2024, the exhibition 'LA GRANDE BLEUE' was on show at Singer Laren. Soda was responsible for its design. 'LA GRANDE BLEUE' tells the story of painters who, from 1870 onwards, were drawn to the Mediterranean Sea to explore new artistic directions.
Museum Ostwall > exhibitionsAfter Soda renovated the Museum Ostwall - located in the Dortmunder U (DU) - as well as the joint exhibition space of the DU, Soda designed (and is designing) several exhibitions for the museum, including 'Flowers!' (2022) and the new collection exhibition, 'Kunst -> Leben -> Kunst', which opened on the 30th of April 2023.
Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte > exhibitionSoda created the design for the new collection exhibition ('REMIX') for the Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte (Dortmund) which opened February 2023.
Dutch Open Air Museum > exhibitionSoda designed in 2021 the exhibition 'Makers in the Picture' for the Dutch Open Air Museum in which contemporary craftsmen are in focus.
MOA > exhibitionsAfter transforming the national monument 'Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd' into a museum ('MOA'), Soda developed together with the management a concept for the museum and an exhibition idiom. In a sober style that enhanced the dialogue between the monument and the exhibited art, a family of carriers (like pedestals) and a system for the use of texts were developed.
